The Ethos Heater Vietnam
In the mountainous region of northern Vietnam live the H’Mong people. They are subsistence farmers with a rich cultural tradition. One of their main health issues is pneumonia, a result of their cold, smoke filled houses.
The Ethos Heater is built in the style of a traditional Swiss masonry heater, adapted to the local requirements. The prototype fulfills the two main tasks, cooking and heating. The main advantage of the masonry heater style is its ability to store heat. It is best suitable to use the fast burning bamboo, a locally abundant source of fuel. The heater was developed in close
collaboration with ETHOS - Spirit of the Community.
